Job Description

Pre-operative Issues

  1. Monitor closely pre-operative patients seen in the wards and clinics on the outcomes of decisions for surgery.
  2. Equip patients and their families with all the information they need regarding patient’s diagnosis, need for intervention and possible outcomes as guided by the clinicians.
  3. Assist in the education of:
  • Pre-operative investigations
  • ICU orientation
  • Medications
  • Financial counselling and admission procedures
  1. Ensure all appropriate investigations ordered are carried out before any surgical intervention.
  2. Facilitate smooth workflow between cardiac clinic, cardiac lab, OT, CTICU, ward and other hospitals (NTFGH, KTPH & TTSH).
  3. Ensure all patients scheduled for surgery are booked into Optimized Operating Theatre Scheduling (OOTS).
  4. As a patient and family liaison, be contactable during office hours.

 

Post-operative Issues

  1. Inform and update patients’ families on patients’ progress and be a liaison between primary care team and patients’ progress.
  2. Assist nursing staff and related allied health professionals in educating and facilitating the clinicians care plan.
  3. Ensure that follow up appointments and post[1]discharge medical instructions are well informed to patient and patients’ families.
  4. Ensure that all patients who are fit to join the Cardiac Rehab program (CRP) has a CRP appointment.
  5. As a patient and family liaison, be contactable during office hours.

 

Secondary Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Assist in developing educational materials that will benefit to the public, primary care givers and patients.
  2. Assist in administrative and research activities of Adult Cardiac Surgeons.
  3. Provide information on emergency resuscitation procedures to all caregivers if the job holder is qualified or provide alternative resources for such procedures.
  4. Assume any additional responsibilities assigned by Clinical Director and Head of Department of Dept of Cardiac, Thoracic & Vascular Surgery.
